On Friday, November 7, 2025, a puppet and armature-making workshop was held with guest animation artist Nisan Denizci as part of CDM 307: Stop Motion Animation.
During the workshop, students had the opportunity to explore the basic materials and techniques needed to design durable, highly movable puppets suitable for stop-motion animation. In the hands-on session, students designed and produced their own puppets to use in the following weeks of the course.
Based in Istanbul, stop-motion animator and puppet maker Nisan Denizci completed her education at the School of Visual Arts. Denizci’s experience in stop-motion animation offered students the chance to closely observe both the technical processes and the creative possibilities of puppet making.
The workshop contributed to students’ understanding of how a character in stop-motion animation is built not only at the level of drawing or idea, but also through material, movement, durability, and expressive possibilities.
