"Working with Found Footage" Workshop Organized with Zeyno Pekünlü
Artist, director, activist and academician Zeyno Pekünlü was the guest of CDM232: Digital Film Studio II course.
Held on March 27 - 29, 2024, the workshop sought to answer the question "What kinds of expression opportunities do repurposing and remixing found images provide?" together with CDM students. After the theoretical lectures and discussion sessions were completed, individual and group exercises were conducted.
In addition, the workshop focused on the following questions and practiced on the subject:
- Which images do we wish to re-think, re-interpret, and re-mix to create opportunities for critical thinking?
- What does the provenience of these images tell us? What function did the original creator, author, owner, or mediator want to fulfill with these images? Do they still fulfill their original function?
- Do we want to learn from the images? Do we want to dig deeper into the story behind the images?
- Do we want the images to be a witness? Do we want to reclaim and mash the images?
- What could we find if we scratch the surface and rearrange the images to see not only what they reveal but also what they hide?
